Back in the day, gospel music was not the thing that would give you a breakthrough as a music artiste, nor would you advise your kid to venture into. Well, times have changed and it now looks like gospel music is the cash cow in town as many artistes in the industry seem to be doing very well; let’s say doing better than their counterparts in the secular industry. It is evident that a good number of secular artistes have changed bases and opted for gospel music with some moves proving fatal. Those who have successfully crossed to the other side include Size-8 who is now doing very well. Unfortunately, musicians like DNA and the likes found themselves on a rocky patch while trying to cross over, prompting them to go back to their ways. 

It is believed that crossing over from secular to gospel music is a stunt many celebrities use to stay on top; just like R-Kelly when he did “You saved me” and our very own Size-8 with “Mateke” and “Moto”.

Gospel artiste Ringtone and his growing riches

The youthful musician who came into fame with his track ‘Pamela’ is never short of controversy. The last time I checked, the media was all over him trying to unravel the source of his fast growing riches, something his music career couldn’t bring so fast. From unreliable sources, it is said Ringtone acquired his top of range car, a range rover sport, from a notorious sugar mummy in Nairobi; however, these accusations cannot be substantiated. The top artiste has lately moved to live among the wealthiest people in Kenya, precisely the Runda neighborhoods where he is now a full-time resident.

From numerous airplays in media houses thus more money from MCSK royalties, Ringtone’s song Jubilation has also been picked to celebrate Jubilee’s Government anniversary in power, something we must say the artiste will smile all the way to the bank.

Willy Paul

The young man barely out of High school seems to be making more that his wallet can handle, but thank God we have banks to safekeep that. Flying high with “Sitolia feat Gloria Muliro” and his latest “Lala Salama” that has hit the charts with success; the boy seems pretty much safe and has currently hired a foreign manager to oversee his production, public relations, events, sales and marketing.

The girl, now married has been on the limelight with the release of two successful singles, Mateke and lately, Moto. With numerous airplays and gigs, Size-8 is raking in millions of shillings, not to mention what she earned during her Nawapa Vidonge days where she did big deals like being in the ‘Niko na Safaricom’ entertainer team.

Emmy Kosgey

The songstress, now Mrs. Madubuko is famed for her songs “Taunet Nelel” meaning a new beginning, and “Ategisin” among many others.  Besides her wealth earned as a gospel musician, Emmy is now married to a millionaire preacher husband s from Nigeria. Just you know what she is worth, before she got married, she could afford to buy a top range landcruiser car; but then again, that didn’t matter with her bridegroom showering her with a new BMW X6 as a wedding gift, you can google the price, a mansion, and we are yet not to mention the spectacular honeymoon that followed.

Meet Loice, the girl taking after Emmy Kosgei and Gloria Muliro in gospel music

 

Age is not an issue when it comes to talent; lately, young artists have been on the rise and doing great music with the likes of Willy Paul presently rocking the stage. Meet the young talented girl who is also causing steers in the gospel music scenes, barely out of high school and she has a music album out with a number of shows coming. She spoke to our correspondent about her music career and where she is heading. Here is the Question & Answer (Q & A) session.

Q: When did you start singing?

A: Since junior school, we would always hold empty bottles as our microphones and sing out ourselves, it was really fun.

Q: How many albums have you done or singles?

A: I have one album out going by the name “Nimetoka Mbali” meaning I have come from far. It has eight songs which include “Nimetoka Mbali, Forgive me and Hear my Voice” to name a few. I have also done a collabo with another gospel music group called Moc-J-2w where I am featured; the song is called “Gospel Itambe”, slang for Let the gospel spread.

Q: What inspires you and who are your role models in the gospel music industry

A: My inspiration comes from God who has given me and other young people talent to sing and praise him. The gospel industry is also blessed with many talented who inspire me; my role models include Emmy Kosgey and Gloria Muliro. I also like Willy Paul, Ruftone, Ringtone and the many others, the list is endless. My mum is also a gospel artiste and a preacher running a faith based organization that seeks to empower youth through growing their talent in music and acting, she also has two albums out, “Kristo ni Jibu” and “Ochelewanga” which has its title in Luhya language.

Q: Are you still in school?

A: I am sitting my final exams in high school now. After the exams, I will go full swing into singing because I will then have all the time to concentrate in production. I also have several singles coming out soon so all my fans and gospel music lovers should stay tuned.

Q: What challenges have you faced as you rise?

A: The music industry has always been challenging, financing my productions has been difficult but thanks to my parents who have supported me. Marketing has also been an issue but I look forward to get signed by a good production house like Grandpa Records or any other ASAP to help with production. I have also registered with Music Copyright and Copyright Board hence I believe I will soon support my music financially when time is right.

Q: What is your next plan as you leave school?

 

A: I will still go on singing and of course continue with college. I am looking forward to start doing collabos with big artists in the Kenyan gospel arena, the likes of Willy Paul, Gloria Muliro, Ruftone and others.

Q: Have you started making money from music?

A: A little, I have sold a few CDs and VCDs. I am a member of Music Copyright Society, MCSK and I am also working on getting my songs to Skiza tunes by Safaricom.

Gospel singer Size-8 looking all Sexy and Healthy in marriage

The former “Nawapa Vidonge” artist, now a gospel artist with hits like “Mateke” and “Moto” out is all happy in marriage. She has come out open about her marriage to Dj Moe, a gospel music Dj who has pretty much helped and supported her as she transformed into a gospel artiste. On a recent TV interview, Size-8 looked excited about her future, and hinted that her fans should expect something else new and hot before end of year 2013. Maybe she has acquired all that she needs, salvation, now a husband, and maybe a child is coming soon. All we can do is wait.

Her transformation to gospel has elicited both positive and negative reactions from all over with some saying it is a showbiz move to re-engineer and stay afloat on the entertainment scenes while some believing she really has changed. Such moves have been employed by a number of celebrities including DNA, DNG and the likes, only for it to backfire.

Well, let’s hope that Size-8 will keep the fire burning and now that she is married, there will be no more “vidonges” for the any tom, dick and harry, but only for the hubby DJ Moe.
