If you thought you have seen it all, I don’t think so, until
you hear this story from Abuja Nigeria. A man in Nigeria has been hospitalized
after he mistakenly chewed half his blanket while dreaming. Our correspondent
stationed in Lagos could not hide her excitement as we spoke over the phone;
she also managed to trace and meet a close family member who did not wish to be
named to unravel the story behind the life threatening act. And as the
findings, it is believed that all this time and during the said night, Okechuku
Ike as is known around his village thought he was attending a traditional
wedding ceremony and that he was the groom. Dinner had been served and a very
hungry groom was given a plate filled with yams, eggs and pancakes. The senior
bachelor in his forties has for a long time been thinking of getting married
but has never met a woman that befits his status. From reliable sources, Ike is
allegedly looking for a white Caucasian woman to marry hence spends most of his
time in the internet dating sites.
#SomeonetellNigeria, blankets are not pancakes
Just recently, a bizarre happening of the same nature occurred
in a village in the western part of Kenya where a young mother of three boiled
soup out of a blanket to feed her hungry and malnourished children. After going
here and there all day in search for food, the young mother who is a widow came
home empty handed with nothing to offer. The kids could not understand this and
kept bugging her for something to eat prompting her to secretly toss her
blanket in a pot, lit a fire and assured the kids something was getting ready
in the kitchen; Well, the prank worked for a while till late. When we published
the news, several well wishers came out to help with more still reaching out to
save the situation.
Just to shed some light, Kenya remains one of the poorest
nations in the world with a majority of its population living under the line of poverty and earning less than a dollar a day. The recently rising cost of living
is now being felt across the country with high costs of production leading to
high food prices. At the moment, a packet of milk goes for at least Kshs 55
which is beyond reach of many Kenyans. Kenya’s inflation rate stands at a
humiliating 8.29% since September 2013.
