Man commits suicide after wife denies him conjugal rights

A middle aged man in Kiambu County hanged himself to death yesterday. The man, only identified as Njogu was a well known shoe trader in the area. It is believed the couple had been quarreling over the last few weeks over something the neighbours couldn’t tell. However, a reliable source has mentioned of the deceased complaining of denial of his “rights” at a local drinking den while they enjoyed “Muratina”, their favourite local brew. The deceased was overheard talking to himself that if he was denied the rights again, he was going to do something that no one will ever forget. The friends rubbished all that and knew that it was only alcohol taking toll on Njogu and that he will be well the next morning.

However, the next day came and the trader was nowhere to be seen. A hunt to ascertain his whereabouts was initiated by his wife who wandered around drinking dens to check on the husband who was supposed to provide money for food. Without success, they kept looking but Njogu could not be traced, only to be found when vultures and hawks were spotted piling up on a nearby bush as darkness set in. On rushing to the scene, the villagers were shocked when they found the deceased dangling on a thorny tree by his neck. His body lies at the county’s morgue awaiting postmortem evaluation.
