Giniwasekao, Luo word for ‘This thing we have taken’ was the
chant as K’ogalo fans celebrated their victory in the Nairobi streets, this is
after an 18 year long wait. The very celebrated team is a major crowd puller
and boasts the largest number of fans in the country. In a decision by KFF to
award K’ogalo the title, Gor beat Sofapaka in a match that was stopped midway after
what is alleged to be a provocation of Gor fans by Sofapaka players after an
attack on a linesman. This was later on followed by reactive action from Gor
fans who pushed down the security fence trooping into field thus causing the
match to be halted. The match never resumed leading to Gor being awarded 3 points
through the KFF decision.
On the other hand, AFC leopards played Karuturi Sports hitting
them 1-0 with a goal from Alan Wanga giving Ingwe 44 points behind Gor who lead
the table with 56 points, the highest ever in the league. Sofapaka trail with
43 points, KCB at 40 points, Champions Tusker are at a humiliating fifth
position with 38 points, Bandari follow with 38, Ulinzi Stars at 37 and Thika
United at 36. Chemilil stand at 35 and City stars at 32 points.
In the coming matches, Gor Mahia play Homeboyz with AFC
playing Sony Sugar, both matches at Kasarani stadium on the 27th
October. Several teams face relegation this season and these include Karuturi
sports, Homeboyz, Mathare United, Sony sugar, Western Stima and Muhoroni Youth.
